First focal plane (FFP) scopes

The reticle sits ahead of the erector and grows with the image, so holdovers and ranging marks stay true at every magnification. The cost is a reticle that is thin at the bottom of the range — which is why nearly every FFP scope here is illuminated — and, at the same price, usually a little less glass.
